The name Honest Psychology came about because that’s what we are all about, being honest with ourselves and our clients, to provide an authentic and warm therapy experience.

Honest Psychology provides a safe space where you can explore your difficulties, learn some new coping strategies, or just talk through what is on your mind in a non-judgemental space.

 

We offer a warm, empathetic, and personalised approach, to ensure your needs are met and you feel comfortable telling us your story. Our values reside in being honest, open, empathetic, relatable, and inclusive to all.

Therapy Services:

Therapy Services are offered online, which increases accessibility to anyone, regardless of where they are located.

Cognitive, Education, and ADHD Assessments:

Honest Psychology provides Cognitive, Education, and ADHD Assessments for those interested in identifying learning and concentration difficulties. These assessments are completed in person at Papamoa, Bay of Plenty.

Amber Takhar-Stapleton
Registered Psychologist (NZ & Aus)

Amber is the Principal Psychologist at Honest Psychology is a member of the New Zealand Psychologist Board. She values an open and nonjudgemental therapy space, to ensure her clients feel supported. Amber is a warm and passionate Psychologist which comes through in her therapeutic approach, and she has experience working with a range of presentations across all age groups from children through to adults. 

 

Amber achieves positive outcomes with her clients by understanding the needs of each individual and through the implementation of evidence-based interventions. She is competent in delivering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion and Compassion Focussed Therapy, and Couples Therapy.

 

Amber has completed a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Post Graduate Diploma of Psychology at Massey University, and Master of Arts (Psychology) at Waikato University. Amber completed her registration in Australia, and further developed her training working extensively in Paediatrics and Private Practice, undertaking comprehensive assessments for children, adolescents, and adults to assess and diagnose Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), co-morbid diagnoses, and Education and Cognitive Assessments including Specific Learning Disorders (also known as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia), Intellectual Disability, and more. 

 

Amber is currently approved by the New Zealand Psychology Board to provide comprehensive Cognitive, Educational and Neurodevelopmental assessments and provide diagnoses.
 

Amber has completed comprehensive training to provide Eating Disorder based therapy, and is a credentialed Eating Disorder clinician with the Australian & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED).
